Hey I can not fine the post..but someone out there told me that if my precious kin weighed "X" lbs that he or she would drive to my house and then transport my kin to the Kenosha Weigh off. Just want to say that with that persons help I actually measured my kin and indeed she would not cut it at a weigh-off. So who ever you are...I want to thank you for the nice thought...Really appreciated it... by the way..she weighed about 130 lbs. John
PS This will be my last year of trying to grow a BIG PUMPKIN...I am choking down to field pumpkins.

Nothing wrong with taking a small kin. You will inspire someone in the crowd to try growing. Think about it: If your weigh off only has 500+ lb pumpkins then a lot of people will think 'I cant do that'. ...Even though they probably could. Wish there were a dozen under 500 growers at our weigh offs.

Hey Southwest WA, thanks: I love your ideas. You mean I could get away with calling my kin a field pumpkin? And I am really with you on your idea of smaller pumpkins. The giant one are a bit intimidating. John H.

Why another thread started John...there are 50 threads on front page of general discussion. Of the last 50 threads...8 of them have been started by you about your pumpkin. This one pushed off "Good method for AG seed germination" . Brandon...don't encourage something that should not be encouraged. I have seen a Wisconsin grower that is capable of 1800 pounds bringing a very young 30 pound pumpkin to a weighoff to get preferential parking and a front row ticket to witness the event. This is the pumpkin belt, not the desert southwest or are humid hot of the deep south. I have grown 700 pounds both in community garden and in 150 sq ft. And I am not even a good grower. John in private emails, you have said you have had education in soil agronomy. How is it, that in seven years you have never done a soil test? I know you are probably on a limited budget. Money spent on soil test instead of critter ridder...using mechanical barriers for mice, probably would have gotten you further.

bnot: Good points. I have no defense. Soil testing is hard to do...even is 150 sq feet. That is uniformly speaking.
Anyway, I am not going to argue. You flay got me on all accounts. However, I do not know what good soil has to do with mice etc. Actually if you really want a laugh...I am really taking it to the MAT...I have gotten down so low as to the use of "BOUNCE" wow it even works. An auto mechanic told me to put some of that in my garage. So the little critters do not go up into the engine mount and get into trouble. Also, soil testing does cost money...I forget how many samples one has got to take to the Lab. Well enough of all that. Thanks a lot for all the discussions we have had and I really do hope and pray you get though all of your personal problems and I wish your daughter well...Sounds like she will be the light of your life. And also, my agronomy helped me with my work as a Soil Conservation tech....By the way, we always tried to steer the farmers to soil testing...and they really do not have the money...GOOD NIGHT! Actually all farmers work together with the University of WIS as do other states with their agronomists.

Was joking cant enter a pony in a dog show. But you might connect with the crowd or vica versa. I would encourage you to try one of the many ideas that have been thrown out for your benefit.
Anyhow other new growers might be able to glean from these many long conversations, even if we arent truly connecting here.
