Flick them off...Ive never had them do anything other than leave a slime trail. I get them when I start covering with a blanket at night.

Rarely nibble on healthy pumpkin... Great year for them here. They have been active all summer. Only saw one biting on a pumpkin. They really only like the rotting ones and the old flower petals. They're basically a non issue.

Slugs DO eat leaves and you need to identify the type you have. There are a large variety of species of them in North America. I buy ground treatment at my local hardware store. There are a bunch of DIY methods on the net as well.

The cotyledons are definitely a favorite slug food. Thankfully he ones here dont touch my leaves or vines. Maybe its because they have other things to eat, like my dill weed.

Here, in the Pacific Northwest, Slugs are a big issue in the spring when plants are young seedlings and just transplanted into the hoophouse.

Without early adequate protection and monitoring for slugs, your prized seedling can be destroyed overnight by slugs.

I take it back slugs can damage the pumpkins... Some are chewing 1/2 inch deep pockmarks... I have yet to see them take down a pumpkin. Lots here but not THAT many. The little holes will rot eventually if they stay wet however.
