OK so I only have one plant, with two pumpkins growing on it. Question is which one do I keep...
1 - pumpkin on main vine DAP24 139lb @ 12ft, but not an ideal shape and reminds me of the one we had last year that split due to a very thin blossom end, or...
2 - pumpkin on side vine about 6ft from the main and 6ft from the main root, DAP12 basketball size, nice and round looking. It's right in amongst the leaves and general growth so it'll cause quite a bit of havoc getting to it and moving it into position etc etc.

I'd go for pumpkin #2 - Every time I've had a tall, 'beanbag' pumpkin like #1 there's always been problems (as in season-ending splits) - but that's just me.
#2 has a really nice shape and you wont have to worry anywhere near as much about lethal splits compared to #1.

... but then again, the 2145.5 McMullen kind of had the same shape as #1, and it turned out great...

Gerald, I removed my first pumpkin on my 2166 plant which was in prime position in favor of a younger pumpkin that was a much better shape. At around day 20 the younger fruit started to go mis shapen like the first so I haven't really gained anything by removing the first only putting myself back 10 days or so. You won't get the best from the plant with the one on the side but maybe the one on the main will split. I don't know what to suggest but at the end of the day it's your call.

Thanks Mark, true the younger one may go the same way, it was concave at the blossom but not much, but may well have got worse as time went on - decision made today and it's been removed. It would have been a nightmare to get it grown properly anyway as it was positioned deep within the main foliage of the plant.
