ok ,so pumpkin is at 27 days old & looking good! It has that light color, so the top of patch has 50% shade cloth over it,(entire patch), then the pumpkin has another 70% over it , But i noticed the pumpkin still gets a significant amount of sun, should it be solid cloth over the pumpkin or what? Thanks!

I've always kept my Atlantic Giants covered with a sheet placed on top of them. Go for a light-colored sheet though. A dark colored one absorbs heat well & the last thing you want is for your pumpkin to overheat.

I like to use mattress toppers as they are usually white, water and other fluid resistant, and the elastic helps hold around the pumpkin with all the wind we get here.
Towards harvest though, you want to expose them to some sun each day to start hardening off the skin when growth slows.

We use 10' round white table cloths to cover our pumpkins. They are somewhat water resistant to help keep the kin dry & are large enough to cover fruit up until season's end. We also use a couple large comforters over it when the weather turns colder. Good luck.
