What would be the best shape of a pumpkin to run with ? I have both right next to each other round or elongated ? All are pollinated within 5 days of each other and it is time to make a final decision. I have never had this option as in past years I was elated to get SOMETHING to grow when I wanted it to grow. My line up is 2066 Geddes-1885 Barron-1510 Carter...I cut a round kin off the Geddes as it was at 6' I hate doing that.

Post pictures in your diary of the kin’s in question. Growers will better be able to advise you.

I like a round one if its on the 2066 geddes.I'd go with one on your best plant ,in a good location if the lobes are even and dont worry about shape. The initial shape might change as it develops.

I have two on each plant ( one of each shape). I do like the round kins but it seems that Ron Wallace said that the elongated kin was his preference as I think he said it goes heavier than the round. I was just curious on what other growers have experienced. All three plants are my best plants ! All had five lobes (6 kins).... Trying to narrow it down to three and run with them.

I recall reading a few places longer is better than tall and round. I also remember when Chris Stevens broke the world record, and that was the first thing I noticed when I saw a pic of it. For HD I’d go tall and round.

Comparing two on the same plant... I will throw an idea out. Maybe the stem thickness and blossom button size indicates something about the potential? All other things being equal...

Go with one on the main or just off the main. The pumpkin shapes on a given plant will all be similar as they develop.

Good point cojoe. I’m growing 2 plants this year from the same seed and the pre-pollinated female flowers are completely different. On one plant is the football shape I like, on the other plant they are totally round.
Good luck tjsna.
