I want to have best chance of pollinating pumpkin so should i cut the secondary before pollination ? i'm about 5 days away ? or wait till after ? & how long ?

Hey Fissssh, I always remove the tendril and secondary as soon as possible when I’ve got a prospective female flower. So, for e, as soon as possible.

I try to leave it on if I can, having the extra vine can help. But I also wouldn't hesitate to cut it if necessary

I never have cut the secondary before pollination , if it don't take you lose a secondary and as far as cutting it I don't unless it is trouble as the pumpkin grows but that is just me

Im with Gene on not losing a secondary if you dont have too, but in the case of my one plant this year I have a female that will open in a couple days and nothing I can see in the tip, its my one and only shot for a june pollination. I went ahead and cut the secondary off 3-4 days before pollination.

I leave mine on, I loop it around and send it the opposite direction so it doesn’t impede the kin’s growth.

I leave the secondary on as well as try to preserve the tap root at the pumpkin node by gently pulling it up. Look at the way that secondary and root want to grow, like turbo. They must be good for something. I learned this from paul Fulk.
