I have two vines growing away from each other. One vine tip is laying down nicely and the other is reaching for the sky. It is making me nervous as is is the main vine and I don't want it to crack. I usually see this later in the season on older secondaries.
Any thoughts as to why this happens?
Thanks.

While there are many reasons why vines grow up rather than flat, the very end of the vine (final 2.5 to 4 inches) should always point down. It should look like a snake ready to strike or like a lower case letter n. If the very tip points straight up, I’d start worrying about early YVD.

I use a cotton rope..placed gently back by the base...it brings them down nice and slow

We have had variable weather. Plants are confused, "reaching" for light, and nitrogen levels get outta whack when there is not enough heat/sun to grow at full speed. If they are growing slow, any excess nitrogen has nowhere to go.

I was told it was do to lots of nitrogen & once i experimented & put some fish (alaska 5-1-1 )on a plant that wasn't reaching for the sky & after applying it -it was reaching soon after !! so it was true the nitrogen was making it reach !!!
