That 384 terry bushel gourd has got a root in cold soil. 4-5 days. Wowza. Here is the issue. I changed my mind on doing a melon before it got a root. I didn’t really expect the gourd to germinate for some reason. Now it’s germinated so ugh! Yes it’s a good thing but I kinda have my mind on a melon. Thinking about grafting the gourd with the melon. But this is the WR bushel gourd. I don’t have room to do both. I don’t know what to do. What do you think?

Gotta grow the gourd! BGs are in a very exciting stage of rocketing weights. You could have this years WR.

Henry I would plant one or both. I wouldn't graft it if it is your first try. I lost many, many grafts before I figured out how to do it.

The bushel gourd. That's what I would grow.

I would go with the gourd. It is tough to get competitive watermelons without a good high tunnel or greenhouse in northern areas. They like it warm.

Henry you can grow a big melon in 150-200 sq ft. My 262 was grown in 150 sq ft. My normal plants get 240 sq ft
