Hi all, Im pretty new to growing pumpkins and after reading all the posts I can, I get the impression to grow a huge pumpkin I would need to live on a farm. LOL My patch is only a 15x10. Can I grow pumpkins in an area this small? Thanks

There's a contest every year as to who can grow the biggest pumpkin on 150 sq ft. Last year's winner was close to 1000 lbs. So while you won't break records on a small plot, you can still impress the neighbors.

You might want to consider joining the st Croix Growers Association. They can get you some quality seeds and connected with other growers in your area.

I grew for seven years right next to you in Spring Lake Park. I started with a very small area just behind my garage. It slowly grew as I took out more and more yard. I have grown in the 150 sq ft contest for a few years. It is fun and everyone is challenged by the same sq ft. I liked trying to grow for HD winners when I had a small garden. They impress the neighbors also. Have fun and enjoy yourself.

Marks anything is possible. A lot of factors can play into it. Soil, how much sunlight, fertilizing, vine lay outs just to name a few. Like others stated here there's 150 sq ft contests. Growers have grown some big pumpkins to answer your question. Good luck and enjoy watching your pumpkin grow. Looks like we are neighbors.

The only thing more amazing than growing a giant pumpkin is growing it in a teeny tiny spot. People expect a big one on a farm, but when you grow one in the middle of the city, it's way more impressive.

I have seen 700# grown in 80ish square feet. So close to 1000 seems to be about the cap so far with 150sq feet, but maybe you'll be the one to hit 1500 in a small plot. Smaller plots are more fun and manageable, so stress is much lower if you are busy outside of growing too.

I'm in the same boat Marks. I think we should start a 5 gal bucket challenge.

How about a Kiddie Pool Challenge?

Must be able to prove that the bottom of the pool hasn't been cut out.
