I just got back my spring soil test. It came back with a sulfur analysis of 215 ppm. I've been using the same lab (UMASS) for 2 years and have never had a reading for sulfur. Has anyone had a sulfur reading in this range...is it going to be a problem? The only thing I can think of is that I added 200 lbs of gypsum in the fall(1000 sq ft patch) and maybe I sampled a spot where there was a clump of gypsum. I'd appreciate any feedback greatly. I should read past posts first... I read the one posted a few days ago and I should add that my PH is 6.9. The reason I added the Gysmum was to lower my PH from 7.3 and to increase my Calcium (went from 2500 ppm 4/06 to 3200 4/07) I've achieved my goals for PH and calcium but just wanted to make sure that the 215 ppm sulfur reading isn't going to cause any problems this year. Thanks again.

               gypsum doesn't effect ph readings

You didn't say what the ph was.

PH is 6.9, buffer index 7.1.....My concern is what effect will a high sulfur analysis have on the plant. I'm going to re-take a sample in 3 weeks to see if this was just an bad sample.

I added the gypsum because I wanted to stabilize the PH....If I added Regular Pelletized Limestone my Ph would have gone up.

My S results are consistently above 200 ppm. Currently, I am growing at good rates right now. My soil doc has never once considered it an issue. Make sure it is in balace with everything else and you are fine.
