The 743 could be a very powerfull seed. It would be nice to see the 898 Knauss as a pollinator for that one, or for the 664 Liggett.

Any time Andy.I ran into lots of troubles in the patch this season and i know the 850 could have been a whole lot bigger. As far as putting some heavy into it, i think i'll introduce heavy and huge which will be non other than the 901Hunt.

Brooks, Carl's 850 is on my short list. There is lots of popular seeds out there but Carl's 850 and Huffs 743 scream to be planted. 1725 Harp, how about 925.5 Dieffenbaugher (1432 Carlson x 1068 Wallace) that's the one I'm after, actually I have three, my point is popularity, big names are fun, but what seed gets your blood pumping? I think I'm the only one who planted Phil's 839 ( 842 Eaton x 1097 Beachy ) besides Phil. If I live long enough, I'll plant them all, lol Yes I've had a few lol

Plant your own seed, it worked for us. LOL.
We have been working on our crosses for the past 4 years with the goal of growing the 1st 2000#er. The cross was suppose to be done this year, but the 1269 Hunt (901 Hunt +19% x 1631.5 Mckie +20%)fruit passed away @ 100" Cir & never produced any seeds. We crossed it with the 898 Knauss. If I could find another 898 Knauss or a clone from the 898, we could maybe finish what we started.
Your right Andy, the 839 is a good seed & just screams to be planted. We only have room for 3 plants, so it's tough to grow them all out. Thanks for giving it a try my friend. Jane hopes to try it again, so we'll start one as a back-up this spring.
Thank also Carl for considering planting our 901. It is by far the best seed we've ever planted. I'm not just saying it because it's our own seed either. It'll see dirt in our patch again in 2010. Right in the same plot too. One last thing is that it doesn't seem to mind the cooler temps either.

Phil H., just my two cents worth, have you considered the 820Beauchemin, it has 5 generations of 898Knauss in it.

Not a problem Phil. Not only huge and heavy, but a plant that thrives in cooler temperatures. What more can i ask for. Thanks Phil

Donkin, I learned that you cant have a great season every year, and it happens to the best of the growers out there.
One year they are on top and then the next year they are just a regular grower like us again,,lol. I been trying to atleast come close to my 2007 season and bad luck has hit me 2 years in a row. But I know luck will sooner or later be on my side again, when?, wish I knew,,,lol!!
Everyone has a bad year, it happens to everyone in this hobby. Keep on growing em and you will eventually grow that monster,,, its what I keep telling myself anyway, lol

Thanks Andy, the idea of taking the 1097.5 back into the 664 wasn't to produce pretty pumpkins but to get thick knarly heavy pumpkins.

810 Kuhn (05) (898 Knauss x 1370 Rose). Possibly a sleeper seed. Reverse cross of 985 Werner, but grown a year before. Only known progeny was 1081 Demers, almost 20% heavy. I'm going by some older postings, the 1081 is listed on Pumpkinlink, but no other info. Diamond in the Rough ???
