I have a single 991 urena. Next year will be my third year growing if you count the year or knowing nothing. I'm not growing in my back yard but out in the country with more room and sun. I am trying to think if I want to grow it nect year or wait another year. Any opinion are welcome.

peep it depends if you enjoy the dream of growing it more than actually growing it.

If your not going to grow it I would LOVE your 991.... lol. If I were you I would grow it with out doubt. Find someone in year area when pollination time comes around and see if they can give you some pollen from a plant like a 985 Werner, 1385 Jutras, 904 Stelts, 901 Hunt... etc. Try to find the hottest seed out there get some pollen from it and put it in the 991.
Who knows you could have the next hot seed!

I'd say - Grow it (Figure each year the seed sits around means more of a chance of it not germinating)- and do a selfed pollination on it so you'll have more seeds with the same genetics for future years !

I would grow it and pollinate it with a 820 or 689Beauchemin, the 820 & 689 have 4 and 5 generations of 898Knauss in them, and I would think there are alot more bugs way out in the country, I would take precautions.

Great idea Glenn!!, I was thinking the same thing, send that seed to me and let me give it a try, and at the end of the year if I grow a 1500 lber off it you can look back and say,,, dayum, why did I give that seed to Brooks for, I could have grown that seed!,, so then the next year you buy one at auction for 500 bucks , no big deal, your loaded with money anyway and everything works out in the end.
The End.

OK on a serious note now,,lol
Here is how I see it about a newer grower growing a great seed, if you have one, plant it. My Dad was a new grower and I gave him a 1385 Jutras to plant, did I know he wasn't going to grow a huge pumpkin off it?,, of course I did, but he had a great time trying to grow it, just the fact of him knowing that he was growing one of the best seeds in the world made it that much more fun for him to grow. So grow any seed you want, dont matter what seed it is, if your having a blast growing it, then thats all that matters. You dont need to be a HH to grow a great seed.
