In your own opinion what is the best 08 orange cross?
Which 08 seed do you think is going to bring the size and orange to the scale?
Thanks

A picture's worth a thousand words, and even though this picture doesn't really do the 1323 justice, you get a sense of how smooth and pretty a fruit it was:

And of course, here is the fruit off the 772 Poirer pollinator plant, Jim's 977:

I don't normally post on my own seeds but..my 1157 is the offspring of my 769 and I think it is going to produce some beautiful fruit with good size. The 998 pollinator was very orange and 1246 lbs. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=96122 This was a great year for Big and Orange and there are many excellent crosses ....great for growers who want big fruit that have color...Mark

Maybe I should add mine also.
My 672 grew my 1160 UOW (picked the first of Sept) this year as well as the Howard Dill winner at our weighoff at 729#. 1160 was 672 x 998. 1160 was very nice and orange. Not 772 or 919 orange, but very nice. Lots of 1231 in the line also.

There are so many nice '08 big'n orange seeds. Makes me wish I had a huge trust fund, five acres of pristine sandy loam, and my own personal chain gang to help with the 100+ plants :)

For size AND orange, these all might have a shot at it. In no particular order....
1157 Lombardi 1102 Pukos 993.2 Vincent-McGill 996 Dwelly 977 or 1323 Sherwood 1004 Mohr 868 or 956 Marsh 968 Kline
Still possible..... 1392 Breznick 1490.5 or 1290.5 Rose
I am sure that I am forgetting a few more.
Now for Howard Dill Award Winners, (shape & color considered), that will have to be another post.

The 973.5 Rondeau. 1385 Jutras x 520 Rondeau. Best color of any 1385 Jutras grown to date. Nice shape with no sag lines. Was 13% heavy. The 520 (1101 Northrup x 1068 Wallace) had a nice shape and color. The 1101 is a very consistant color producer. The 520 has grown 2 over 1000 and both were heavy. We all know what the pollinator of the 1385 grew.
