What heating pad do people use and thermostsat built in or none?

If you're only doing a small number of seeds, I'd use a regular heating pad that's for helping sore muscles etc, and then plug that into a thermostat. Those thin little black ones aren't able to raise the temperature enough if your starting seeds in a colder area like a cool basement or garage. You have to make sure that you get one that doesn't automatically turn off after a couple hours.

Whenever I may get the guts to use my regular oven as an incubator, there are numerous combinations on those pages for a great many uses, even dual-outlet and on some, the wattages are shown; Meanwhile, I have an old (but probably functional, lol) refrigerator that I heat up to 90-95 with 2 bug lights (60 W? X 2) through a heavy-duty thermostat that I've had good results with;
Those links would probably be great for those areas, where the heat is held really well. eg

My T-5 bulbs heat the air in the germination chamber to the correct temp, so none is necessary.

I place a $1 styrofoam cooler on top of my pots and then the Thin black heating mats they sell on Amazon will maintain 90 degrees easily in a cold basement.

I am not an expert, but I put my seeds in pots in the oven with the oven light on. That provided a pretty good temp. Just make sure to remove your seedlings out of the oven as soon as they sprout, because they will get leggy very fast. Then I put them under a grow light or outside if it is not cold. I did this for many seedlings to not spend too much money on a heat mats. lol.


This year I think I am going to use a heat mat tho.
