Since most well all of Wisconsin has a new snow cover some areas have 6 inches some areas have almost 3 feet from this last storm this weekend .... so let’s here it what your new seed start date... this just makes a guy think yup this year is a good one to save those seeds and rejoice in summer fun...

I checked the National Weather Service long range forecast for the next month, and they say there is a good chance of below normal temperatures here in eastern Iowa. I normally start seeds in the last week of April to plant in the first week of May. I'm thinking about starting around the 25th this year. I can't get electricity for heat cables to my garden and rely on hoop houses to warm the soil. I have 2 gallon pots to put the plants in if I have to hold off putting them in the ground for a while. I set some out a few years ago when it was too cold, and they never took off and grew. I don't want to repeat that mistake.

I'm in the 30 inches region. I'm still thinking the last weekend in April. The snow is going down with temps near 50 today. I was out today and there is about 14-16 inches covering the dirt yet. I think it will melt in a week, then needs to dry and warm up the soil.

Mid April is good here, and I have pollinated in mid June by starting then. You all up north in Wisconsin get the slow start, but by June you get longer days than me by close to an hour and milder temps. Everyone who’s grown for a few years knows it’s a marathon, not a horse race. That’s why weights are smaller the further south you go. Every year it’s panic, and every year I see more and more 2K+. I would start right now. I grow in Colorado which has highs in the 90's now and lows in the negatives. I started mine two weeks ago and am planning on planting in mid to late may. I would recommend as late in may as possible to transplant. The plants won't even grow until the weather is nice. Just make sure the roots are not squished by the time you transplant.

Mine are ready for the garden already they got moved to a 5 gal grow bags. This should be interesting to move.good thing I have some good grow lights to keep em happy. There going outside around the 5th possibly sooner.

I ended up starting most on the 24th, 2 more on the 25th. Some are already sprouting. I checked past diaries and this is right in the middle of the normal starting date for me. With my garden in a deep valley, cold air sinks in there in the evening, so I'm normally a week or two later than areas on the flat land.
