I started my seed in 3" pots in seed starting trays. I didn't file edges on them. Its been over a week and only 2 have sprouted. soil temp 85-87 ambient varies from 58 to 75. Green house in garage. Is this time frame typical if you just plant seeds with out special treatment?

I've noticed over the past couple years that if the soil is too wet or damp, it doesn't matter what the temp is. Game over. Is the soil completely saturated?

If their not up in 5 or 6 days they probably aren't going to germ.

Did you soak them first? If the seed isn't hydrated it wont germ.

When I was first starting out growing, Moisture always to be the problem in germinating. If the soil is too wet, the seeds rot. If its too dry then they wont germ.

Also, what medium did you plant them in? I never had any luck at all until I started using a seed starting mix.

Captain, What do you recommend soaking them in and for how long? I've heard of just water. Or water and a miracle gro solution or water and peroxide. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Soak them in water or water with soluble seaweed(teaspoon per gallon). I like to soak 6 hrs on a well filed seed. Make sure your potting soil is well squeezed out. Main reasons for no sprout is wet potting soil or heat not in the 80's.

I mix up a gallon of neem/daconil for my 30 minute soak. No issues yet with getting them to sprout or and damping off.

I just noticed another one coming up. I used Promix. I wouldn't consider the soil to be to moist. I pulled most of the seeds out to inspect. They look like they just aren't ready. Only one had some rot but it also had mold on it when it started. So the waiting game continues.

Norm. It didn't get any better. I think now It may have been to wet for the seeds. Only 3 came up and one doesn't look good. I planted several more. Hope I have better luck. I did get one of mine, a 1649 Lancaster and 334 Arnold. The 334 is the one that isn't doing well. We will see how the next bunch go.

Sometimes the seeds don't germinate, no matter what you do right. If you can squeeze the soil mix, it holds together and doesn't drip any water, you are good to go.

And I lost a lot of plants before I bought a thermostat to keep my temps constant in my cooler.

Second round better than the first. 2 are already coming up after 2 days. Drier potting soil soaked the seeds for a little over an hour. few drips of water in the morning. feeling better about this.

I dampen my soil mix, file seeds, soak in water for 3hrs, put in soil mix
small amount of water to water them in. Cover with plastic or seran wrap and don't touch them again. Some came up in 3 days and the rest in 6 days. Hal

So like I said my second round went better than the first everything germinated. I didn't give up hope for the 1756 Lancaster from the first try. I opened it up a little and saw the radical. Put it back in and checked 2 days later and after 4 weeks it sprouting will get some pics in the diary soon.
