Hi everybody ! I would like to know when I have to start my seeds ? The local weighoff is september the 14th, but the european weighoff is october the 5th ( when they're big enough, I'll go to the european contest... ) I live in Belgium ( europe ) A second question that I have is : how much room does 1 plant need ? Messurements in f² are welcome, but in europe, we use km², and I don't know exactly how much km² = 1 f².... ( I really believe that I have room for the 9 plants I'm going to grow at another patch, don't worry, the patch is of an old lady and she is retired ----> she has the whole day to look after the pumpkins. )
Can anybody help me please ? Thanks a lot! Bye.

Not sure how the weather in Belgium is... but you want to plant after your last average frost date. When the soil is warm enough for the plants to grow well.
each plant requires 400 to 1000 sq ft which is 37 to 93 sq Meters

Your weather should be similar to Germany. They expect a very good summer for us in 2003. So you could start in Mid April (indoor or greenhouse) and plant them out May 1st or so. If you want to convert ft, lbs etc. online, look here: http://www.gfra.de/usfood/convers.htm. Happy growing!
