I was able to get 6" coir fiber pots this year and am using them to start my pumpkin and squash seeds. Does anyone have experience using them and could you share what you think of them? I know with the peat pots I have seen roots penetrate the sides of the 4" pots even before the plant broke the surface of the soil, so how does root penetration do with this material that seems to be denser. I should have a good idea of how things go in the next few days, but I thought I get some other perspectives if possible.

Not sure about coir pots but I used a seed starter this year that had coir fibre in it and I loved using it.
The coir not only held moisture nicely but it held the other material together in the pot and made for very easy transplanting as it was binded together in one piece.
I saw it used in a diary and it looked difficult to separate from the pot....here is the link;

I used coir pots last year and have dug them up this spring. The roots penetrated ok, but the pot never broke down as was advertised. I am using them again this year but will cut the pot open in about 8 places just before I plant them.
