I'm starting my seeds in 1/3 worm casting 1/3 good compost and 1/3 Schultz's starting mix. Do you think the worm casting and compost are good to use in the mix?

i recommend just using the seed-starting mix itself,
as early-on the seed won't care as long as it gets the
chance to sprout; the seed has all it needs to get going and i use Jiffy-Mix now which has no actual fertilizer in it, but i DO use Bio-Grow Endo Plus from Joel Holland added-in because once the plant really gets going, it does seem to help a young seedling. but, for the start i would stay away from over-fertilizing and doing too many things.

Greg, this year I used 1/2 seed starting mix and 1/2 compost and worm castings all mixed together.

I now wished that I had not cause my seedlings all were weaker than normal. Too late now but I would go back to using just straight seed starter and get them into the patch as soon as the first true leaf is out.

I was thinking about doing the same as Glenn. I stuck with the regular seed starting mix. All of them are up, turning green and doing good.

I may put a teaspoon or 2 of castings per gallon of starter mix next year just for some life, but a 1/3 by volume catings in my opinion is way too much.
