Hi I'm in 4H and for the first time signed up for "vine crops" as one of my projects, am looking forward to it, but have no idea where to even begin, I have pumpkin, gourd, and watermelon seeds, also some fancy gourds, birdhouse and swans, can anyone offer any advice or websites that would give me step by step instructions on how to grow these items well, I live in Southern Ohio, pretty close to the river, I'm sure geographical area makes a difference, thanks for any and all help

first of all, are you going to grow your seeds in an existing garden? if so what is the square footage? do you want to grow all the above seeds or put all your effort into a few giant vegetables? I don't know the 4H requirements about how many varieties. Another important thing is your soil quality, you should send away a soil sample to see what you are starting with. if growing a giant pumpkin interests you, this is a great site, take some time and look at some of the articles and diaries to give you an idea of whats involved. if you need any questions answered please feel free to email me, I'm no expert but can at least get you started.
