What causes the leaves on a young seedling to be curled up around the edges?

In my observance, lower humidity and or salt accumulation can account for yellowing of leaf tips. I watch the uniformity of color within the leaves and see if fertilizers, mild dilution when young (high nitrogen) can green them up.
