Hey PB, I've been working on this this year also. If you look up on the main board about seed starting there is a section there on adance seed starting. Take a look at that. The roots come out very quickly with this method but you should experiment with it with seeds you can play with. also you will see that the big guys reerence first "True" leaf. that comes after the seedling. If you got that in six days You did really well. you will see some of my posts below on this page about my experiences with the advance seed starting trials. Good Luck Chuck

thanks chuck,i'm gonna try the advance seed starting method next...i file the side of the seed and let it soak for 10 min's in warm water and place it in a wet paper towel, the root came out in less than 19hrs then i placed it in a pea pot..then i picked seed coat when it came threw the soil...i guess right now it's seed leaves i'm looking at....thanks billy k

I take the seed coat of of the embrio compleatly....Then stick it in the wet bounty paper towel, Bounty seems to work better...It holds more moisture then those 69 cent towels! Then i put it in the zip lock bag and in 18 hours i have a root emerging. In 2 days i have 1 and a half inch roots, and the roots are growing through the towel. Chris

Lot's of paper towel fans out there suggests to me that people are so impatient they have to see what's going on. Remember, it's not nice to fool Mother Nature! Peat moss pots under a Medium heating pad for consistent 85 degrees insures proper conditions with minimal stress of any roots that emerge. I'm not willing to precariously move a germinating seed and think I can pack it just right around potting soil without disturbing primary or secondary hair roots. I wish all well however.
