Ok one seed of mine that I really wanted to grow this year
i had 2 of them, the first one never germinated. the second seed did germinate but took 10 days in soaked papertowl heated at 85 before being transplanted into soil it poped up today and the cots are "fuzzy" moldy like and kinda crunched other than that it looks allright. The seed has great genes and I would really like to grow it this year. Because of this could it have any effect on the plant in later stages as for growth, fruit set and overall performance?

or should I keep this plan strickly for pollination purposes?

Why would you pollinate with something you already deemed not worthy to grow?

If this is a plant you really want to grow then do it. As long as your plant grows and starts to put out true leaves and is not showing any abnormalties I would grow it out.
I don't see any big deal with having messed up cots. Cots go away after a short while anyway. Good luck with it.

Heck, if ugly screwed up cots meant anything, most of us wouldn't grow much. 2/3 of my plants each year have funky, twisted, knarled, one-eyed, split, or mutant cots and the plants turn out fine. After 2-3 weeks it doesn't matter anyway...just grow it and quit worrying.

I can take pics of my tiny little seedlings with some really screwed up cots and post them if you'd be interested in seeing them!?!?
Anyone wanna see more tiny little seedlings pics? (unique though, *really* ugly knarly cots :0)

I like seeing tiny seedling pics. It gives me an idea of how plants are doing from day one and I can compare mine to a lot of others and see what's going on with them if there are problems. Of course, that's just me.

Southern, Not to worried just asked a question thats all,
Basically out of all the testing I did between last year and this year this was the FIRST one Ive seen that came out of the soil with the cots covered in "hairy Mold"
yes ive seen some ugly cots and do realize they do fall off down the road but just didnt want to grow a plant that may become ill dureing its growth do to this mold. eaither way dont matter the plant went into the garbage this afternoon as the cots were stuck togethor as if they were glued. Ive currently got 4 "good" plants currently growing in the patch and Ive got 4 other good backups going out into patch next weekend so not overally worried with one seed.

i won't post any pictures of them, but every seedling is its
own little story in the making. i have decided to not post any pictures of seedlings either unless it is something that is weigh out of the ordinary, (which INCLUDES twisted,
torn, moldy, tiny, discolored, multi-colored, off-balance
and, something i have had happen never more than once in a day, but this year TWICE in a day, on a 1076.5 Werner and one of my own seeds: only ONE cot comes up, but has the first true leaf with it....), allowing me to still be happy with my own tiny little seedlings! ho ho ha ha i see it from all angles, for EYE myself am bug-eyed, from seeing my own!
lol----i love each one, everyone else's included.

Eh, it's only seed Eric. I don't sweat that stuff anymore like I used to, especially if I have a #2 available (which I've learned to do)
