Some growers recommend to water seeds before planting them for about two hours. Does anyone have experience what happens if the seeds are put in the water for to long, like 24 hours. I forgot one of my best seeds in a water can near the oven for about that period of time and it had already been mildew (mold) on the seed. I planted it nevertheless. We`ll see ...

I think you will be OK. I test germinated some of my seeds during the winter. I left some of them in water for a week and they still germinated. They germinated in the water. But the mildew is a concern.

I left my test seeds to soak for too long. Some of them germinated in their soaking solution. If you look in my diary for 2005, you can see how a little root is poking out of some of the seeds after removing them from the 12 hour soak.

Next time I will soak for less than 12 hours. Probably four. But, two hours seems to be well below average when I think about all of the diaries that I've read here.
