Is direct seeding in warm soil better than transplanting?

I've tried both ways. Seems transplants just sit there and don't do much till the weather warms up. I'd say it's a toss up unless you have some way to warm the outside soil.

My best plants this year were directly planted But, I will start them all indoors or outside in a cold frame next year to be sure that they're warm enough. Also, seeds started indoors usually have a better chance of survival. Good luck,

pappy i think it depends on where you live my spring time temps a cool enough that cold frames are needed to protect my plants until the 1st of june we've had frost as late as the 9th of june direct sowing without some form of added heat to the soil only gives me rotted seed or a late start when it finally warms up
