It certainly doesnt pay to waste time, so if there's no effect or a negative effect, then that'll be a game changer. Im trying the same thing on a couple tomato plants, I'm wondering if there's some benefit to just letting them indulge a little. Its almost like the plant equivalent of a late midlife crisis or something. They just need that extra Harley or whatever!

I think new fresh leaves just photosynthesize better Dale. It’s really hard to do a scientific analysis though. But , I have done it this way the past few years. I think the hormones are better balanced and the fruit continues to grow. A plant is probably able to grow 6000 lbs of fruit so extra vines becoming a sink doesn’t affect anything because the extra leaves keep adding photosynthesis even faster. Then it just adds to the fruit as well. Maybe lol.

Don.
We have about 50%of the plant before the fruit and 50% after the fruit.
The first 50% of the plant before the fruit will do most of the work.
The second 50% is there to do the rest.
The second 50% will have painfully small leaves to start with but will eventually fill in.
I hope this helps Ian
