As giant pumpkin growers we do so much to our plants, it is sometimes hard to know which practices are essential and which ones are less so.

A single root that is twice as long should have access to 8x the volume of dirt, assuming it is cone shaped...? Its a legit theory that a single longer/larger root could outperform multiple shorter roots.
Maybe the secondary roots are like leaves, though, where they reach a certain size and then they dont get any bigger? My ignorance is showing, aa it often does, lol.
