Those longitudinal splits are not uncommon. I would keep them dry and spray with a Zerotol solution.

I've had a bunch of them. They heal themselves pretty quickly and will still grow as the vine does. My nephew had a split in the main right after the stump and it slowed growth for a short period and then took off. Try to keep it dry as Kevin said. Plastic soda bottle cut in half works. I generally dont cover mine but some growers do.

.I just added pic of same type split to my diary from the split just after main. Good Luck..you should be fine just don't bury it.
