High Nitrogen and cooler temperatures would be my guess. I would back off the nitrogen until post pollination. Warmer temperatures will help too. High nitrogen makes for stiff less pliable vines.

The strange thing is this occurred during hot weather and I wasn’t fertilizing. But I did water heavily due to the heat. Could it be the heavy watering?

I was having splits in the leaves and surprisingly the test said it was not a calcium issue. My conclusion was that it was copper. The blue fertilizers contain pretty much all the micronutrients... and I dont think organic fertilizers would cause that either. A fertilizer that doesnt have micronutrients... potassium nitrate or something... may make them more likely to do that?

Could it be a stress fracture? I have a really big one on a secondary that was pointing up and it cracked under its own weight. I.e. not a disease problem IMO
