That lineup of growers in the top ten (well, top 12) is like murderers row in this hobby! Very impressive fellas, now.. how many of those top ten were grown from the 898 Knauss? I am willing to bet atleast 3 or 4 of them.

It was quite an experience to have my clock cleaned today at Half Moon Bay! Eight of the top ten at half Moon Bay were from Oregon or Washington. I had the opportunity to meet and talk with several of these great growers and must say I was impressed by how approachable and humble they were. My eyes certainly were opened to how big a pumpkin can grow! Congrats to everyone on their dedication and hard work during the season.

I saw the pictures on the noon news channel 3 in Sacramento but they didn't give the name of the winner. I said it looked like Joel Holland. Congratulations to all.

Hester's was grown on a 723 Bobier. Larue's was grown on one of his seeds...but I can't remember which one. Barenchi's was grown on an 1180 Daletas. That's all I really know...oh yeah, mine was a beachy Cross #3...I'm sure that is the one you were really wondering about! Not!

I figured Mombert, Hester, and Daletas for 898's. 723 looks to be the dominant seed of the year so far, was top 2 fruits at PGPGA, and saw plenty of others. Still no clear cut winner, as the 1097 Beachy, 842 Eaton, 898 Knauss, 582 Hester, and a few others remained on top of thier games, but what is the newcomer seed that grew a few big ones that everyone will be hoarding? hmmmm..

Joel told me that it was off the 805 Pukos 00. And he thinks he crossed it with his last year's 1134 but he is not absolutely sure about that and will look it up when he is back home.

Nice pumpkin Russ. It's an honor to lose to a lineup like that. Reads like a HOF ballot.

Russ, Send me the info you have on the 836. Thats one of them crosses I had my eye on. Looking for measurements pictures, and any other stuff you noticed about it. Also have actual weight of fruit somewhere home on it.

Hey all it was a great time at HMB. I was very surprised at my new personal best 1139 lbs. This pumpkin was grown off the 822 Hester ('03) X 695 Handy. It measured 357" and was 16% heavy. For the record, Kirk Momberts pumpkin weighed 1025lbs, not 1125 as reported earlier. It was still very impressive!
