Last year, before I became a several-times-a-day reader of Bigpumpkins.com I had a personal best of 372 pounds. Now thanks to everyone's advice and shared experience here in bigpumpkins.com, my PR just jumped into the semi-respectable zone. On Saturday, we'll see what I've learned after our regional weighoff at Elk Grove. Thanks to everyone for their advice, encouragement, and of all seeds. Without bigpumpkins.com I probably would have grown another dinky pumpkin and wondered what went wrong again this year.

I spend way too much time here, too (it's now my home page). I'm hoping to follow the same path next year! Good luck in Elk Grove.

Russ,
Congrats on your achievements and the first place! Good luck this week in ELk Grove.. You are correct in saying that some light reading in Ken and Johns awesome sight here, Bigpumpkins.com, does help tremendously. What is the 602 grown from and how was it to chart?

The 602 Pugh was grown on an 805 Pukos. It was kind of oddly shaped and hard to acurately measure...big shoulders and a tapered blossom end. Circumference was 132 inches, side-to-side was 92 inches over the tallest part of the shoulders, and stem-to-blossom end was 87 inches for a total OTT of 310" or an estimated 599.9 lbs. There are pics in my diary. It was pollinated with my 845 Bobier, so should be a nice seed for next year.

Russ,
That is amazing, we think alike! My 805 is also crossed with the 845 Bobier this year. Mine tapes out around 327. Kinda twilight zonish there.

Nice going Russ! Sounds like some of the "old Pugh magic" rubbed off on you this year! Best wishes for an even better next year!
