The 1st Annual North Shore News Giant Pumpkin Growing Contest will be held at Maplewood Farm on October 30th.
Farm gates will be open to pumpkin growers starting at 8am. Weigh-off will start at 11am.
Will one of the original members of the the North Shore Boyz group walk away with the first place trophy? Will be interesting.....

Well, I won't be walking away with anything but a bruised ego. Looking forward to it.

Darren,
That is great that you are coming. I'm hoping that we can lure some of the Island growers over here so they can show us how it is done.
Gates for the growers open at 8am and we will have a loading and un-loading team there to assist. Have a look at http://www.maplewoodfarm.bc.ca for directions to the farm. It is just to the right of the second narrows bridge as you enter North Vancouver.
Looking forward to meeting you and anyone else that wants to come.

I grew 4 plants this year 1039 Vader, 1005 Mombert, 955 Holland, 733 Ciliberto. Got off to a late start and couldn't spend too much time in the patch, so will only have something in the 350 pound range. I guess there is always next year. What is everyone else growing around Vancouver area and how are your growing seasons going?

Glen, I was thinking of going to the weigh-off in Ladysmith on the 9th/10th of October, do you have any rules or objections to one pumpkin in two different weighoffs. I've noticed some weighoff sites do. Still not sure if we're going, BC ferries on a long weekend with two kids under three could be a real drag.

Darren, you should get a grower diary going, so we can spy on what you have growing there (for next year). I grew store bought this year (long story), but I have some great seeds for next year, courtesy of the folks here at bp.com. My best this season is sitting at about 150lbs :( See U at the weigh off.

Looks like we are getting growers from all over coming to this first annual event.
Next year we want to lure some other growers here so our group will endeavor to raise more prizes and possibly some prize money.
See you all there/Glenn
