When you look at all those weights remember that you have to live in a 21 mile radius of Circleville to go there. You would think I would be upset to place so low ( that's my 385 lb'r from the SOGPG weighoff). I'm a little depressed to only have that pumpkin, but the rest of me is extremely proud of our little 21 mile radius having so many great growers. Even though our weighoff has been going on for almost 100 years now, in recent years it's REALLY starting to come on strong. It was a extremely crappy season here in central Ohio but I foresee in the very near future having to have a 1000+ pumpkin/squash just to place in the top 10. Dr. Bob, Buddy & Karen, and Kenny are always at the top now but it'll be a good bet to see Darryl Crosby, Chuck Geiger & John Pontious dominating soon. I'll be posting pics again this year thru the rest of this week & the first of next week. ....Paul

21 mile radius! That's amazing. Can't do that in Holland even with a 210 mile radius. (Holland doesn't have a 210 mile radius...that would be Belgium or Germany.)

It makes getting pollen for crosses nice. I had to drive only about 20 minutes to get pollen from Darryl Crosby's 869 Calai plant this year.

I have to say we are lucky to have such a great close net pumpkin growing comunity here around Circleville. As for Paul and myself we were raised on the Pumpkin show so you could say pumpkins are in our blood.Around here all the growers help each other.
We are very lucky in that the great growers: Ken Speakman,Buddy Conley,Bob Liggett, help those of us with less experiance obtain what they do. Without everyone working together I dont think we would have the results we do. Maybe one day Paul and myself will be the ones at the top helping the newer members grow these crazy things.
Id like to say congratulations to all the growers and lets make next years 100th Pumpkin show a year to remember. Thanks also to Paul for the seeds,John Pontious for loading the pumpkins and Bob,Kenny and Buddy for the answering all the questions.

Circleville's weigh-off was awesome. My daughters participated this year and are eagerly awaiting a chance to grow an entry for the 100th. We were lucky to win the first annual Nancy Martin Memorial Award for prettiest pumpkin. Nancy was fascinated with pretty giants. Nancy was all that is Pumpkin Show and we all miss her dearly. Our entry weighed 85 pounds over tape and we cut her yesterday. I couldn't believe how thick the rind was. For all who will attend the meeting on the 7th, I will have pics. Thanks to all fellow growers for making this year the best so far!................Joe Gerchy
