Big discussion on the AG genetics site on necessity of greenhouses. I am fairly new (2 years) to big field pumpkin growing but already I am thinking I need shade cloth for growing the big fields in the central U.S. I feel my hot July, Aug, Sept, weather causes my fields to mature earlier and do not get the number of growing days they have in the cooler climates like Canada, Minn, etc. Any opinions ? recommended shade %, etc. Have looked, shade cloth isn't cheap. joe

Ive been growing ag's under shade cloth for years.A few times Ive grown the big field pumpkins in some of the ag spots. Theve done much better under shade cloth . However those spots also have a misting set up which also cools the plant.22% white shade cloth is what I like. They sell it at greenhouse mega store online.
