Everyone should grow giant tomatoes. It takes way less space than a pumpkin and less work. Plus you can actually eat what you grow.

Agree with all. It appears that those that are the most excited about growing are getting records and above all breaking their own PRs.
It may be very beneficial for the most excited growers to share among one another and learn. The very good growers are spread out so much. The closest known grower may be at least 60 miles from you, you may or may not visit or communicate with them. Give yourself credit for all your best growth. Look for seeds especially from your grow climate.
Comparing yourself with the world record might not be in your plans. Everybody can grow a giant tomato or so..
Be excited, once it begins to be too much, especially elderly growers.
If you're excited share it. I'd like to start sending and sharing what I may know. Relative to everyone here I may only know squat but don't give up..You will occasionally have trolls or clowns a little too made up. have disrespect to your responses, or comparisons made, disagreement etc. Many may already know a lot but reviewing never hurts. If you feel the material you share it helps the many.

correction re. above: Be excited, once it begins to be too much, maybe you could cut back volume of growing etc., especially elderly growers.
I'd like to thank Scott for all his hard work on Domingo and Zac trees. Winter is time to prepare, get seeds plan on any soil amendments, study the subject, spread out purchases, don't wit till the last minute. Thanks

Yeppers I am in for large tomatoes this year. I am a “newby” and found a book called Giant Tomatoes by Marvin Meisner. I have sourced some good seeds and have been watching the auctions. I am in the central valley of CA so I don't expect anything record breaking. I will give it my best for a 4lb tomato. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I grow in a 20’ x 20’ community garden plot. Wish me luck

I'd start very early or late, I've had the best results cutting it very close to my frost dates. If I was you I'd start seeds this month then transplant them out in March, maybe under plastic or Remay fabric if the weather is poor, and see if you can get a few tomatoes set before temps hit 90 or 100. Likewise, there is a fall grow window, where the night time temps can get low, but nevertheless the plants will appreciate not getting burned up during the day.

Yep tried the early thing last year. We received a super late hard frost (late second week april). It wiped everyone and everything out. I think I will start germination on valentines day and see what happens. Gotta show those seeds some love!!
