Whats the concern with those pumpkin sidevines... Light or roots? 8.0 :)

Resist the temptation to add nitrogen or way overwater. You know what you are doing of course but if you are like me the more excited I get about something the harder it is to keep a level head!
Here's an idea though... expand the effective root zone by adding a thin layer of dirt or compost?... & Keep us posted.

I am worried that the pumpkin roots are so much into the zone of the tomato that they will restrict the growth of the tomato. If I am over 25 inches this weekend, I think I will cut the root nodes of the pumpkin that are within 5 ft of the tomato. That way, I will keep a majority of the potential of the pumpkin side vine, but the tomato won't be fighting the strength of pumpkin roots.

It will be ripe way before Gale Woods. Maybe you should cut the roots of the tomato and slow it down.

Larry, I think it could be borderline for Gale Woods. Remember there is a window of about 3 weeks in cold storage for a tomato to stay sound for a weighoff. That would make about Sept 15th as the earliest ripening date. Sept 15 is about 46-49 DAP. I wish I knew for sure what the pollination date was on this one. My best guess is July 29th to August 1st. Wilie Coyote also has a nice one going on a MegamuttD, not sure of his pollination date, but using 3 way measurements his might be bigger than mine.

My megamutt flower opened on July 15 according to my diary. I put it in its first sling on Aug. 7.

My Megamutt is bigger than Bnot's. I measured mine and this is my measurements. 21.5 X 20.5 X 21 X .00048 = 4.44 pounds.

I hope to be posting pictures soon. My camera fell in the water and is broken. My wife will take pictures with her IPAD.

I got my plant from Bnot this past spring.

I might be a week or so younger than you greg. If your first flower opened on July 15th it was not pollinated until days later. I hope you get a picture up soon...I want to see what the Borg Cube looks like.

It seems to be smoother or more stable tham the megazac. I think that is the domingo effect !!!

I've posted some pictures of my Borg Tomato. It's a lot easier to measure with a piece of string than a measuring tape on this tomato.

I plan on growing a few of these megamutt plants next year since this one is doing so well for me.

I see the pictures you posted Greg. It looks like yours really has some of the same characteristics of mine. This being the F2 generation, we could see a wide variety.
Remember, you only have to get to about Sept 15th for a chance at keeping it sound for Gale Woods on Oct 6th.
I measured mine again yesterday...after that I took out one pumpkin side vine.
I am definitely planting more megamutts in my garden next year.

Weird Wint, I can send you some seeds from my mega mutt along with some 4.54 Martin seeds. I haven't found the tomatoes from the megablooms from a few weeks ago yet. I hope I didn't knock them off the branch by accident.

Borg Tomato started turning yellow today. :-( I'll have to do early weigh off with my megamutt. I don't think I can prevent it from becoming ripe before Sept. 15.

Greg, yours turning early is making me nervous. By my calculations you are only in the low 40’s DAP. Do you have any record of the growth for the past week. I know we have had a rainy spell followed by much colder nights. If you wish to early weigh my scale is now recertified. If you wish could meet you at ecogarden or some other place you think might be interesting.

I'll measure tomorrow. I was going to measure today and saw some yellow and walked away. We'll see what happens the next few days. Maybe the rain messed things up. I gave it a new fertilizer and doubled the recommended amount in the directions before it rained. Plant did look like yours after my fertilizing with the leaves now curling. Next weekend we could me at Ecogarden if my Borg tomato starts turning red.

I have a Karkos 5.63 that is busting out of its sling that could be weighed also when it starts to turn red.

did either of you get a weird leaf mutation near the stem of the tomato?

The blossom of my mega mutt is in my grower diary on July 15.
I won't be able to see the leaves near the stem of my tomato until I cut it off the plant. I'll cut the tomato a good 6 inches from the plant and take a picture of it.

No change in measurements when I measured today. It's been 4 days since I last measured. I guess it's going to start to ripen. :-(

Well it's good to see after growing 80 plants this year and 40 plants last year that the megamutt came out on top two years in a row !!!. Have you grown the megadom and megazac ? I i know the 5.61 megadom is a good seed but i haven't given it a good chance ? The same with the megamutt. My best was the megazac and i focused on it like you like the megamutt. I need to grow all 3 again next year !

I am growing a Karkos 5.56 Megazac. I know I have it in a sling. I am not following it closely like the mega mutt.

I would grow some mega doms if you send me seeds and I can send you seeds from my mega mutt if you want some.

wixom, i have a 3.14 megazac f3 growing right next to the megamutt. It is measuring about 3 pounds but way behind the megamutt. This will probably be the last year I try the megazac. I have only had one megadom grow in my garden...nothing really to speak of. For some reason the megamutt is really doing good for me...you really broke all the rules..crossing an F1 with an F1. 50% of my garden next year might be megamutts. I am dreaming big time...hoping my megamutt will get over 7.07...to beat qtip's best. Not September yet...but all my big zacs are suffering from blight....wixom crosses..no effect yet. Brutus Magnum...not affected yet either. Late season tomatoes...we need to utilze the crosses.
