Is it worth cutting off the foliage to give tomatoes more room, and keep the tomato itself from being in contact with leaf stems etc where possible? (like reason behind an s-bend in pumpkins). Pic in diary below.

Dap 19 on one of the home 2.88kg Peter Glazebrook tomatoes. Tomato now swelling into nearby leaf stem (circled in photo).

Pull the leaf away with twine or cut it... Before the tomato gets bruised its gotta move or go...?

Nice looking tomato by the way. It's more about prevention. If I see that going on early I prepare to put some foam from those "pool noodles", on early. They are in every store this time of year. They are helpful in every way in the garden whether it being a tomato or pumpkin. Rip off a piece and put it between the tomato and stem. As the tomato grows it keeps a barrier between the tomato and tomato stalk. I use these all the time. Now, in the situation you are in now, as late as it is.. if it is a leaf stalk, cut it. Main stem, you can't cut it. Try to bend the tomato away it may break the tomato stem.

Yes rip off as much as you need to A point. Tomatoes don't need as many leaves as say a pumpkin. So it doesn't worry me at all about affecting the growth of the tomato
