This is my first year growing a giant tomato and so far I have one that is looking great. I did scroll back in this forum but can't seem to find good instructions on saving and drying the seeds? Suggestions? Thanks!

I like to get a set of tweezers and pull them out one by one and set them on a paper towel...then I get razor sharp pencil and number each individual seed...right on the gel coat...(that way you get an accurate count)...now it's time to photograph ...what you do is....eh?...Ya know what?...check out bnots journal ... I heard oxyclean cleaner works too...

I do it a little different, I put seeds in a jar and cover with a paper towel, then let sit for a couple of days, then I add water and shake,pour off liquid, do this about 3 or 4 times to get them really clean,then put on paper towel and let dry for a few days. No chemicals used,I don't like chemicals.

I would prefer not to use the chemicals, but I feel the issues of harvesting with the fermentation method is worse. There is the time factor, potential issue with odor and my wife would be really upset if i attracted fruit flies into the house.

I just use Oxy Clean.

How much Oxyclean do you add to the water? The fermentation method is similar to my method also, but instead of using the cleaner...you let the tomato puree ferment for a few days. The rest of the steps are the same.

Oxy Clean. Teaspoon in a warm cereal bowl of water. Cut the tomato up and scoop out seeds, one hour, colander rinse with rubber spatula, dry on plate. Great germination.

I generally use fermentation.
Yes it is smelly and takes some time.
I have tried Oxyclean in the past but I didn't get the same results.
Maybe I didn't leave the seeds in it for long enough.
Since I grow a lot of tomato plants I have concerns for disease on the seedcoat and the seeds therefore get a short soak in TSP and another in a dilute bleach solution.

Only takes a hour with oxyclean and dry overnight ,does not affect germination but I rinse 3 or 4 times
