If you could only plant one tomato seed what would it be and why? I know what I would grow but don't want to bias you. I will give it up later though.

Good question. Would this hypothetically from all seeds from the past and/or present? There could be two answers.

Currently i like my own 6.23 because of its chance to reproduce its massive megabloom.it may be a long shot but you never know. I also like the domingo veriety i think that it can do better than people think.

If I go to the Giant Tomato Statistics and Growers Resource website and plug in "which seeds grew the heaviest tomatoes", out of 500 seeds analyzed, curiously I get Marv's 6.51 (2011)in the lead. Trying to compare this site and the GPC site together with all this info give me a headache with notes and arrows going every which way. What stands out for me in an obvious way on the GPC site is the 5.07 Boudyo (2010?). Most of the top weights have this in its lineage. In 2014, for example, a quick glance shows the 8.41 MacCoy, 7.10 Foss, 6.88 MacCoy. In 2015 you have the 7.05 Porkchop (Steve, Marley) originating from the 5.07 Boudyo down the line. You can stake this claim on probably many more of the top tomatoes the last few years.

So, if I had them, I would plant the 5.07 Boudyo but they are gone. Currently if I could plant one seed I would plant is the 7.10 Foss, another originating from the 5.07. The 7.10 the following year grew the 7.19 LaRue. That is two 7.0 + lbs two years in a row. Find that anywhere. I have both the 7.10 and the 7.19 and they will both be in the first row of my garden.

What is the story on the 6.51 Marv? I notice it was grown in 2011 and listed as a Delicious. It has pretty good weights down the line, consistently putting out 5 lbs +. In 2012 the 5.16 Boudyo grew from it. In 2014 the 6.89 Timm grew from the 5.16 Boudyo, but it is listed as a Big Zac.

Tough question, if I had it I would choose the 8.61. But seeing I don't either my 7.1 or Dan's 8.41.

Good point garden rebel that means that the 6.89 timm must be a delicious not a big zac.

I couldn't even choose there's so many good ones...I'm hoping that either the 5.95 wixom or the 5.47 Qtip grows the worlds first 6lb domingo...(or 10lb...I would take that too))

Good question Marv..I have an awesome set of seeds to choose from this summer. Right now...i will probably give the top spots to the 7.18 Harp 2009, 7.33 Hunt 2010 and the 5.85 Boudyo. I am making this choice based on the rarity of the seed..not all because of the best potential.

The 4.57 MacCoy, it is the 5.07 boudyo × open. It grew the 8.41 for me and one more over 5 lbs. I have just a few left.
The second would be 5.30 MacCoy

Looking at all the tomatoes grown over the last 5 years, I would have to say the 2010Boudyo5.07 would be the best seed of all. It was an F6 and so the seed was stabilized which means that all of its descendants are just as good and there are many including some of those named above including the 8.41 MacCoy and the 7.10 Foss and other biggies such as the Sunderland new world record. In the Big Zac line the 5.07 Boudyo and its direct descendants stand out. Stay tuned though because some new seeds being made via crosses may prevail such as a cross between the 5.07 Boudy line and the descendants of the Delicious line from the Hunts tomato of several years ago. And there is some promise for the cross between MegaMarv and the Hunt Delicious line and the Boudyo 5.07 line. This is why we need good records. When I first planted the Boudy 5.07, wireworms destroyed the base of my plant. I started a new plant using the top of the old plant and rerooted it. I grew several tomatoes from this 5.07 and got quite a few seeds and still have a few left after giving lots away. This seed would be one out from the 5.07.
