i am new to giant tomatoes.how long before your weighoff should i have my plants in the ground. how long does it usually take to grow the really big ones

I vote 15-19 weeks...give or take ,depending a bit on where the fruit is positioned...pruning the plant is the most important part of getting them big...lots of great growers here so keep the questions comin...good luck.. The maters are fun..

If you are tring to time it for an oct 1 weigh off it takes a flower to ripe tomato aproximently 45 days so you would try to set the tomato the first week of august. But its difficult to grow one that late in the season so we just enter them in early tomatoes entry. Everyone hear grows them different. Some growers like their plants to have some size to them before they set a tomato others like me will grow them on small plants.competetive tomato growing is still rather new so their are several different growing methods going on. Only time will tell if one mothod will be better that another but i don't think we are at that point yet.
