I am really looking for seeds from the tomato that grows the best ribbon to blossom from the F-2 6.23 Konieczny. Please take a picture of the first blossom truss. The size of the tomato matters less to me than the quality of the rtb. If you get seeds...I will trade high for the best one.

Yes, I can grow a huge ribbon vine and flower. I was so proud of this freak of "The Kraken". But I couldn't get the thing pollinated. We had crappy weather during that time. From the 7.05 Porkchop. I will start a bunch of seeds from tomatoes grown from the 7.05 this year. I am still not convinced that the ribbon is any kind of answer to grow a 10 pounder but the stem will sure hold a 10 pounder. Some good crosses of ribbon trait plants like bnot wants to do and careful plant management might produce these more consistently.

I had three big zacs last year with these traits, all from side shoots that were converted to mains. One plant produced quite a few ribbons but no tomato. It even grew small ribbons out of the leaves.

garden rebel..i have one of your ribbon zacs going right now in my little hydro setup. I have been stomping my feet hard....the concrete sure hurts my feet...but willing to sacrifice a little to get a good ribbon plant. Everyone...keep you eye also on the F-2 wixom-slammer plants...they can show signs of ribbon too, coming from i think the 7.05. Breeding for giants by characteristics is still in the early stages. For 10 pounds and beyond i think this is the way to go.

I will be on ribbon watch also. Wonder if there is anything systemic that can promotes or causes ribbons, not just genetic.

I have been wasting alot of brain cells trying to solve the riddle of rtb. If it is a single gene..it should be easy to isolate. If it is a combination of genes..to get the sequence stable is alot harder. I am also considering the environmental factors. If I had a truly stable..potential ribboning seed...i could try with hydroponics to vary the npk levels to see how that affects it. Also, i believe that chris was experimenting with Big Stem at the time...I will be trying a few experiments myself. The biggest problem I have...i don't know if i really truly have a seed that is F-10 or better. Hoping this year..will be the year that we really start to get controlled self pollinations.

I had a ribbon blossom late in the season off of our 5.44 seed. I think a lot of seeds have the potential.

I had one on my 7.10 a few years back the fruit appeared to have 7 or eight fussed blossoms. When it got to about 2 pounds the plant developed a blight that I couldn't stop. The tomato stopped at 3.5 lbs.

I know that wixom slammers will throw a ribbon to blossom sometimes..I have had two of them on that variety. Grow it Big james. You have the first chance at the 10 pound challenge.
