Will tomato stop growing if calyx splits, as tomato gets bigger calyx or green bit that connects the tomato is splitting, does anyone else finde tomato gets Cracks in the middle as tomato gets bigger

I think more would answer if they knew the solution. Its not regional , I like others probably don't know the individual parts of the tomato. A major grower will have to answer your question. I don't know if it is weather related or fertilizer or moisture. Hope someone knows. We all learn then. Jim

The calyx is the flaring green part connecting the fruit to the stem.
It originally is the outside of the blossom.
I have had a calyx on a giant fruit split before.
It isn't common but it does happen.
The fruit can split a little bit along with it but if it is actively growing & you keep it dry it just forms a scar.
In fact I am sure of the hundreds of pics of giant Maters we have, this is shown.
Speaking of which, why don't you show us this on your diary?

In my limited experience, I have had big splits there and thought for sure it wouldn't grow, but it did. It just scars over. Keep it dry or it will mold. I didn't know what a calyx was or was too lazy to look it up but Materdoc explained it just fine.

Ohhhh... Calex... Why didn't ya say so??...happens more w the domingo variety in my experience...I'm w rebel .. Keep it dry..it will still grow...stupid tight-lipped Americans ....
