Dan, I was wondering what your thinking was behind the extreme pruning you did of your tomato plants? ie,"What were you thinking?" For years growers have felt that it took a decent sized plant with a certain amount of vegetation to grow a big tomato. I remember when people were growing big pumpkins on plants that were maybe 150 square feet in size. Pumpkin growers have now gone back to growing on maybe a 900 square foot plant (30 feet by 30 feet). What led you to believe you could grow big tomatoes on plants less than 3 feet tall? It is counterintuitive.

its simple....my biggest most lush looking plant last year produced
my smallest tomato.my 4.57 was grown on a 36"high plant.
i decided i would do that for all ten of my plants this year and it worked out.

I think Dan has already written us a new book. He sure has at the very least gotten our attention. He has gotten my attention for sure. Boudyo has not come into the picture yet this year but I know he will. His vines were 9 feet long and lying flat on the ground covered with row cover on bnoth sides. Gordon Graham played the CB radio to his plants. One guy got aggravated with his plants because they weren't growing and urinated on them. Maybe that was when more nitrogen came into play. We have to make sense of all this by next year. Tomato growing is getting more and more interesting.
