Im looking into a way to let folks weigh at local stores for maters & lopes as they are so hard to keep long term & traveling several hrs to weigh-offs is a lot of work for a mater or lope.I need membership ideas to implement this.It has to be a solid way to prevent cheating.Maybe a video entry?exposing all sides of fruit would work on certified scales.??Worldwidegiantgrowers.com will be membership driven.so please advise I want your ideas?? post here if you like or contact me at mark@worldwidegiantgrowers.com

We have been doing a tomato contest here on big pumpkin just show the tomato on the scale, it works great. I hope no one on big pumpkin would cheat.

Yes Pumpkin bell.Most are honest and wouldnt cheat anyway,But The Big Butt is Theres seems to be cheaters or ones that dont think it should be wrong to enter a split fruit.So to keep everyone happy.I think a video taken on a digital camera Or a I phone or similar device & emailed in would suffice.How do others feel about this?

so far we got a good group of guys and everyone is honest!!! pics with a tapemeasure in pic and on scale with pic sounds good!!! i think split fruits are okay but i dont think blown out fruits are good if it is not whle then its a dud,lol pizza

Yes I just checked out Plant your owns requirements & I joined there mater contest Pete.I will be allowing maters to be weighed at local stores on certified scales with photos.If the maters are over 5 lbs I may require a video on a phone or camera exposing all sides of fruit.maybe a witness or 2.to win cash money.I will do the same with cantaloupes.I would like growers feedback on both classes.I have made this decision after talking to several good growers.The consensus seems to be to lighten the standards as these fruits are hard to keep.Please advise Mark@worldwidegiantgrowers.com

5. All entries must be weighed on certified scales. G.P.C. sites, County Fairs and State Fairs are acceptable events. Must get pre-approval for any other contest sites.5A Tomatos & cantaloupes may be weighed at local markets on certified scales,with photos & tape measurements(circumference).Any record breakers should be video taped & witnessed by 2 people (not related).
I just amended rule #5 per members feedback!
