Are you accepting as official weights tomatoes that have been weighed on a home scale rather than one that has been certified. Also is there a need for a tomato inspection by a knowledgeable party who can certify that a tomato is actually one tomato with contiguous skin and who can also be an acceptable witness to the weight. For a world record or a winner in the GPC these are necessary criteria for recognition. I am not questioning the weights of the tomatoes entered so far but just want to bring up the rules needed for world record, Guiness recognition etc. The tomatoes entered look fine and congrats to the growers. Getting past the 4 pound mark is a real achievement and deserving of recognition. Save the seeds from the big ones as next year is already not far away. Marv

Who is considered to be an acceptable witness?

For a record tomato you might consider the local farm agent or someone who is involved in agriculture etc at a local college or school or maybe a master gardener. Someone with verified knowledge about tomatoes. I don't think you would want Joe the Plumber to be certifying for a Guiness Record etc. You might have to travel a little to find someone you feel comfortable with for a record tomato. If it was weighed at a GPC Weighoff or a State Fair or some recognied contest that would probably do.

There are Master Gardeners all over around here. I will give one of them a call if I ever get a big enough tomato. Thanks for the info.
