Where is the best place to get great tasting tomato seeds. Two places charge 5 and 6 dollars just to be shipped, don't want to pay that much. Does everybody just get them at the local hardware store?

I buy my super steaks at the local Green house.I think it pays to buy quality plants they use Virus resistant seed lines.Ive bought the Big box store stuff & had very poor results.I would not mess with shipping live plants,a waste of good cash if you ask me.I like Beef steaks & super steaks! The others seem mild in flavor to me.

if your talking eating maters the local homedepot, lowes, and garden centers are great,i think taste depends on what variety u grow and what u use to fertilize garden!!!
if u are talking giant maters hear is the place!!!! as far as different taste with big maters depends on what u like i like big zac (pink tomato) and orange tomatos(low acid) pizza

Thanks, I will be feeding the plant seaagri.com dehydrated sea water along with compost manure. The site shows a test they did at rutgers university, the tomato's that were given seaagri tasted better.

Reimer seeds, Victory seeds (seed savers), Tomatobob, Sevenacre seeds, and Hazzard's seeds (wholesale but no minimum and they sell to anyone, but you end up with gobs of seeds) ... oh, um, Burpee if you want Black Pearl or 4th of July...

Richard, if it's great tasting tomatoes your looking for you should grow Brandywine (Suddath strain)and Aunt Ruby's German Green. These two old heirlooms are the best there is flavor wise. They've both won many taste tests. Most years I grow one or both of these.

I like the hazards store, still deciding on pay the 6 dollars shipping or wait for local store displays to come up.

Richard, email me and tell me what kinds you like. I will be ordering from Hazzards in about 2 weeks and be glad just to send you a few seeds if I order that kind (Hazzards are 100-1000 seeds in a 'small' package) debrebel@rocklore.com

Richard, if you're interested in Black Brandywine and Aunt Ruby's German Green tomatoes shoot me an email (shouck1@stny.rr.com)with your mailing address and I'll get some seeds out to you. Unfortunately I don't have any Suddath strain Brandywine seeds right now. The seeds are from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.

That's how hybrids are make Richard, by crossing two different lines together. To be a little more technical they would be F1 hybrids, simply meaning filial generation one or the direct result of crossing two different genetic lines. F2's would be the result of crossing your F1's. Don't expect them to breed true however, you'd have to select over several generations to fix the desirable traits you are looking to breed into your new strain. That's how Minnie Zaccaria created her Big Zac by crossing two heirlooms.

I am looking for Flamme and Big Zac seeds or any other seed that can produce a 3+ pound tomato. I really want to grow Flamme's for their flavor and can't find them here in WV and want to get back into growing giant Tomatoes, so I would love seeds that can produce wr size. I have seeds from my own 800 Pumpkin, my state runner up 500 pound round, 17 foot sunflower (sunzilla Moore strain), Long gourds, 40" green beans. Please send me an email at docmoore13@hotmail.com if you would like to swap. Thanks so much in advance. Doc Moore 1213 Maple Street Saint Marys, WV 26170

Richard B., a quick & simple answer to yer original question is...it doesn't matter where the seeds or plants come from as long as they are heirloom types (lots of taste), as opposed to hybrids (lots of specific inbreeding) like the giants, or the one's at wallyworld that ship well, but taste like cardboard! One of my fav's is Ky. Beefsteak. I also have a lil eater in the garden every year...Isis Candy!!! bicolored Cherry!!! Peace, Wayne
