Michigan Zone 5b

Hi all,

I have a bit of a problem. Just picked a huge tomato here and some folks in other forums are wanting to see me get it weighed.Being there are no weigh offs scheduled till October that I know it may be hard to get an official weight.Any help would be great.It will be entered in the annual online contest at Idigmygarden.com which is hosted by Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds .

keep it in the fridge it will stay atleast a couple weeks,if its not to far gone!!! how big is it ???? can we see a pic please????? thanks pizza

Klorentz just go to your market that sell things buy the pound the scales are cert. just take a pic on the scale with weight showing get the person who weighed it for you to sign and date a paper and your good to go at least for state records and all plus bragging rights lol.ALSO I KEPT my tomato about three weeks in the crisper fridge, way to go. Bry (Bryan) is making up a tomato chart like pumpkins have. If you would be so kind, Kevin, tape your tomato too, please.
I know he needs CC and a few other measurements... (psst Bryan, squeak up) Good luck and may it go big Kevin.

Anyone in this area (OK panhandle end) we are within 2 weeks of our tomato weighoff and will be glad to do an early documented weigh and report if you have one that won't make it to the 16th.

Thanks everyone for your advice and encouragement.I also got in touch with John Harnica who host the GPC event in Dundee MI and he is doing some checking into early weigh ins for me.Right now I am kinda stuck without a car in rural Michigan and the closest store is about 10 min away.

I am also a member of Idigmygarden.com forums which has an online visual contest and they have a decent chart.Hoping to win that one as it will mean I can get some good seeds from Baker Creek.To be honest I am in shock at the size of this tomato.All I did was give it some fish emulsion and worked composted grass clippings into the soil.All my tomatoes are heirloom/OP. I pulled an Amazon Chocolate today that has to be about three pounds and have one Rose mater that is around the same.Have a few others on the vine that are looking pretty darn good too.None of them seem as big as this monster of mine.It is an OP version of Big Zac.

Anyway I am hoping to get it to a scale soon and hope to save seeds from it.

This esti"mater" is fairly accurate in most cases, and can be found in the book "Giant Tomatoes" by Dr. Marvin Meisner, "Lubadub". It'sa great book for a beginer and can get you off to a great start next seasn.
