Just wondered how many of you are making new tomato plants by air layering and if you are what exactly is your technique? I have done this in the past by wrapping part of a baggy with moist potting soil in it around a "sucker" and then pretty much sealing it with tape but wondered if anyone has a special technique? As I recall, I got roots in about 2 weeks. Marv

Look in my diary, Marv, I documented doing a 7.18 Harp, and it took 8 days. I am going to do it again to several plants and take nice pictures to share if you're interested.

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=128376 is start, #76 to 81 inclusive, 19 April

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=129102 #100 to 105 inclusive, 27 April.

Air layer was a little faster than sticking sucker clones; but plucking 3-4" suckers, dipping in clonex gel and potting up and putting a dome over made from a cut up 2 or 3 liter soda bottle worked too, just took closer to 2 weeks.

Okie:
I looked at the pictures in your diary and they are quite good. Your plants are way ahead of mine as I started much later. YOur diary is great. Thanks. Marv

You're welcome Marv; I took better ones Sunday. The 7.18 Harps were started 29 Dec 2009, so yeah they're ahead. Prepping them right now with last round of air layer and sucker cloning, cleaning bottom leaves off, etc, to go outside and be planted at an angle to bury stem and rejuve them to Go For Glory and the Ten Pound Mater!

Ring a Ding Ding. Do your thing. Ten pounds might not be enough.
