Can I add my 2 cents?...Thanks, I will anyway. I checked the Watermelon, Long Gourd & Squash message boards and each had 5 new threads in the month of January. They were all good threads & thats not bad for January & the fact that a small ( but proud) number of people follow it.
You choose to go on the squash board & post ( in your words Hoss, not mine.)" bp should drop it if nowone going to use it, the tomato comp will be glad to take it over, if not BP NEEDS to look at a way some others TO can use it,sorry for being forward but this squash growing forum is a dud."
How would you respond to that on your tomato forum?
There are around 30 different subjects of message boards here 14 of which have less activity than the squash??
Now, one of the 2 people ( Rocky Rockwell being the other) that I think of when green squash is mentioned because of their support, work & backing of better squash rules, green jackets & overall recongnition speaks up & YOU choose to take it personal.
Glen Andrews took offense to a bashing of what I feel is a thread he is highly respected on & YOU take it personal.
Then you jump here & go third person on us crying for help. When I read " treetop says treetop is getting attacked"
Why didn't it read " treetop put treetop's foot in his mouth & got called on it".
Take some advice from someone who has put his foot in his mouth on this site before.
When making a controversial post type it in a word document & save it. Go back 8 hours later & if it still is how you feel & doesn't look a bit crazy to you then copy & paste it & push "post reply"
Your welcome....Paul

huffspumpkins you right, i said on the squash forum that i was sorry, leave it to cabin fever/temper whatever,it was my fault and lipumpkin was just standing up for his forum and i had no right spouting off my mouth to him, but DUCH BRAD which im sure is counting my incorrect words or whatever, is just an unhappy little man, who starts out counting my incorrect words and then ends with his titles makes himself feel better, i will never have any thing to do with him i could care less about his titles, he pointed out a speck in my eye when he has a log in his, my words are not allways corect thats my downfall but i seem to get along pretty well. GOD BLESS, TREETOP

Treetop, I'm very sorry I hurt your feelings so bad. That became obvious in the many posts on various message boards. You play the victim role very well. I now realize that you REALLY DON'T understand the deeper meaning of my posts. And although you seem to think you know exactly who I am, I'm afraid you really don't have a clue. Shoot, you can't even spell my name right (LOL). Neither do you pay attention to :) or lols.

I wrote my message for two reasons, both of which you obviously missed, which could be my inability to communicate or yours.

Reason one is communication. How we write and what we write is extremely important, seeing as there is no non-verbal communication possible with this medium. You now write: "my words are not allways corect thats my downfall but i seem to get along pretty well." You just proved the opposite. You don't always get on ok, you start fights (just like me...lol). Your posts about tomato competitions are so illegible that you keep on having to explain what you really mean. Compliments for your enthusiasm, by the way.

You write that you have helped hundreds of people. Great! Keep up the good work! But at the same time you are writing that to people who have been growing since the 1980s and have helped a lot more people on a much larger scale than you can dream of. So to prove my point of what you are doing, I set my credentials (plus a :) symbol) behind my name. Obviously you missed the meaning. The thing is, you did exactly the same. With a bit of self reflection you could have easily picked that one up.

The second reason I made my message was to show the importance of accuracy and perfection. None of us are perfect and the person who knows that best is a perfectionist himself. Although they are extremely perfectionist in growing giant veg, they are the first and often the only ones to see the mistakes they make. If you pay close attention to multiple WR holders in the giant veg world, you will see that (almost) all growers possess an enormous amount of perfectionism. Generally speaking they are hard people to get along with, and also make it hard for themselves. But this perfectionism is the major reason why they succeed. This will also be evident in the way they write, in the way they document things and in the way they grow, etc. My message, not necessarily directed directly at you, but in general and certainly to myself, is, pay attention to detail. That's what the big boys are doing.

Hope this helps understand my message better. And feel free to respond to any message I post. It's a free country.

In the next post, an example of a grower who fit the above two messages to perfection...

In the 1980s and 1990s there was a grower in the UK who set up giant veg fairs thoughout Wales and England. By the time he had stopped growing, he had grown about 18 WRs, which in itself was a WR.

This grower was a great writer and wrote books and many articles. But he was a terrible communicator. He constantly got into fights and then would abandon the fairs he had just set up. He was terribly difficult to get along with but was a horticultural genius, eventually getting a top horticultural job for the king of some Arab country. But once he discovered he could not reach the ultimate perfection, he threw in the towel and stopped growing altogether. He is still alive but wants nothing to do with giant vegetables anymore.
