Growing giant tomatoes is similar to growing big pumpkins. You need "Good soil, good seed, and good weather plus some knowledge of what you are doing and, of course some good luck." I will be interested in seeing the outcome of all of this and I definately want in. Don Langevin told me we would be seeing an increase in tomato weights as more people got involved and I think that will be the case. No doubt in my mind that a 10 pound tomato is in the future and maybe not far away. As we go along though, there will have to be a better way to name the seeds. It is okay, in my opinion, to name a seed after the grower if it is another generation of a hybrid such as 7.18 Harp 2009 which was grown from a 3rd generation Big Zac seed, but many of the seeds used will be heirloom and their name should remain as such. As an example for the world record tomato grown by Gordon Graham from the heirloom variety "Delicious" maybe the name of the seed from that tomato could be "7.75 Graham's Delicious 1986" which identifies the grower, tomato variety, weight and year grown. If the tomato is an heirloom it should retain its name as in the Delicious portion of the name. I doubt many people will be making their own seeds by hand pollination as it is not so easy to do but if they go to that trouble then they can choose a name for their seed such as "5 Smith 10" to denote a 5 pound tomato created by Smith in 2010 via a cross. Keep in mind that tomatoes ordinarily self pollinate. Thoughts?

Hey, the world record Tomato was grown in OKLAHOMA! :D
We have the P&T Grower Club, we started with tomatoes and added pumpkins. We're still tomatoaholics! We also hold a tomato weighoff mid Sept at county fair; and will verify anything presented at our pumpkin weighoff a month later. (if you need a lift ring for that 'mater, you have to provide your own)

Heres my list right now, remember jan 1 2010 we close no one enters after that date everyone seems to like that. WOW your right andy looks like a party, MY power has been out for 24 plus hours and 17temp.,so if anyone tried to get in touch with me sorry, please try again, ja young grower a website dedicated to giant tomatos would be great, but this year im just to tied up to run it, if you would want to start one thats great, but i want to remind you that being in this group of great growers is that no one else get in at the last min.no one can wait till they grow a great big one and then join in you are cop.against the names ou see here and as of jan. 1 2010 its closed, your going to get first shot at some great seeds, and trust me next year will be even bigger, but i have to say im very happy with this turn out, we are looking at some great growers on here, there going for giants every year we all have plenty of comp.i think with the comp. pushing each of us were going to see some great tomatos, and closing them in to GTG growers, were going to see them get bigger and bigger, Seeds are coming in so email me and ill get you some out, send a small envalope postage pay, i can card them and send it back to you for a stamp, tht way you dont have the high postage. WHAT does everyone think of the loose leave year book? let me know we can keep it or lose it? it will cost only postage book rate postoffice if we do it, when you send the postage you will need to sign something that you are giving me the right to use your photos and diary parts about you tomatos.they will not be for sale im only printing for each of use in the comp. GTG THATS IT, YOU GUYS THAT NEED some good seed to start the year e mail me at deerartist@comcast.net ill give you my address. also email me what everyone thinks about the mailer. i need your voices to know if im doing this right. ja young if you ant to start a web please do ill help you as much as i can. GOD BLESS you all, T top

You Can Count Me In Also! I have been growing with the same seed stock for over 15 years and my best has only been a little over 3#, most of my effort has been in Pumpkins. If somebody has some seeds I could get it would be great! If not I will plug along with what I have for this coming year again. My seeds came from an old farmer here in Colorado that he had been growing for over 30 years he said.

Glen: I have not yet received your bubble pack but have some seeds ready to send you. There will be 4 varieties as follows: BIG ZAC F2 --I am sending you quite a few BZ F2 seeds that I harvested from Big Zac tomatoes that were 3 to 4 pounds. The seeds should be nearly as good as what one would buy as they have been grown at least once and produced. They are worth a try as they could grow a big one. Next comes BRUTUS MAGNUM -- This seed was obtained from Canada at a big weighoff there. Brutus has grown quite a few tomatoes over 5 pounds and some nearly 5 pounds for me. Then there are some Gordon Graham Delicious. I obtained these seeds from tomatoes I grew from seed sent to a friend in England by none other than Gordon Graham, the world record holder. I have not had great success with these but they are worth a try. They have produced some 3 to 4 pound tomatoes that really taste good. Finally, I will be sending you some SLANKARDS. These are an oxheart tomato that have consistently given me tomatoes over 4 pounds. With a little luck, who knows? I grow all of these every year plus whatever I have gotten new from the year before from other growers. Others the growers might like to try can be purchased including Phil's Fantastic which can be purchased from Ray Waterman and Big Zac from Totally Tomatoes. As I have not yet received your pack it will be awhile before you receive these seeds but you should be able to distribute them by January if you have all the addresses etc from the guys on the GTG list. Do your thing and Good Luck. I hope these seeds will help.

It is interesting that one of the growers here is from Italy. The reason this is interesting is that many of the tomatoes we now grow in the US and Canada originated in Italy and the seeds were brought here by immigrants. Now we are sending the seeds back to Italy. Brutus Magnum is originally from Italy. There are still a lot of tomatoes being grown in Canada by Italian growers who have had them in their family for years and the seeds actually have no name. They are just a family tomato the family has grown for years. Some of these seeds have not yet been "discovered" by the giant tomato community but they are out there for your finding. I have one such seed and am trying to grow it out to see if it produces for me. If it does, I will be sending it to any growers interested. If it does not, well, it will have been a lot of fun. See if you can find a similar seed. There are lots of stories about big tomatoes. If you find them and grow them, you could become famous amoung giant tomato growers. It will be a lot easier to find a giant tomato seed than it will be to produce one through a cross like Minnie Z. did.

Here we go. I know there are many tomato varieties that can grow big which are as yet undiscovered. My belief is that those seeds are in Italy, Canada and Germany. Emanuele may just "Be da'man." He could be our Italian scout for big tomato seeds. Meanwhile the seeds from me are on the way to Treetop. Again these are Big Zac F2, Brutus Magnum, Slankards and Gordon Graham Delicious. Can you believe that in about 5 months we will be planting?

hi hope to plant some of this seeds, i'm waityng for spring strongly i have some selected seeds from a plant more productive tan others and yes i'm looking for big ones but talking of italian heirlooms in canada is at least inexact now are canadian, for so many years this seeds was selected in canada for canadian condition, probably had some cross(wanted or not) or little mutation, so i think it are canadian heirloom at this stage! aniway the bad thing is that probably this heirloom are extint in italy and being conserved in foreighn country(example is the re umberto tomato that was reintroduced in italy were it is lost from the sse )
